Tile debris is sharp and dense, and the mortar bed underneath can weigh more than the finish tile. Share the square footage, assembly depth, and access so we can plan containers and loads without guessing from the pile alone.

WHY THIS CHANGES THE JOB

The material changes weight, labor, and the removal path.

Tile weight is often driven by what is underneath it. Thinset over slab is different from tile over cement board, and both differ from a thick mortar bed with wire reinforcement. Measure surface area, identify the assembly depth, and state whether grinding or substrate preparation is included separately from debris haul-off.

Tile combines finish, setting material, backer, mesh, sharp fragments, and silica-intensive surface preparation in a way no broad flooring page can fully answer.

Tile over concrete

Finish and thinset may be relatively thin, but bonded residue and any planned grinding belong in a separate surface-preparation scope.

Tile over cement board

Board sheets, screws, mesh tape, thinset, and tile create a layered rubble stream with both large pieces and fines.

Mortar-bed floor

Several inches of mortar, sand, and possible wire reinforcement can make a small bathroom far heavier than the tile area suggests.

Shower and wall tile

Vertical backer, mud walls, niches, curbs, pans, waterproofing, and glass or fixtures can mix into the tile pile.

Identify the break size

Fine chips load differently from large cement-board sheets or reinforced mortar sections. Describe the largest pieces and the chosen container.

Contain shards and fines

Rigid bins or suitable containers prevent bag punctures; do not overfill containers that must be carried down stairs or through finished areas.

Keep grinding out of the haul assumption

Dust-producing removal of bonded thinset or coating requires its own means, controls, labor, and waste description.

Protect the useful stream before it becomes mixed debris.

Clean mineral rubble

Facility acceptance can depend on the amount of cement board, mesh, membrane, adhesive, wood subfloor, and trash.

Natural stone salvage

Whole slabs or special tile may have reuse value, but brittle demolition fragments generally do not. Confirm a destination before preserving pieces.

Mixed bathroom debris

Glass, metal trim, plumbing fixtures, drywall, insulation, plastic pans, and cabinets should remain visible as separate line items.

05 / MEASURE IT

Use the assembly’s native unit.

Use floor or wall square footage plus the thickness and composition of every removed layer. For mud beds, measure depth at an exposed edge or drain rather than assuming thinset.

Surface area alone can materially understate weight. Void space in the loose pile also means solid-assembly calculations will not equal truck volume.
