The material changes weight, labor, and the removal path.

Construction wood should be sorted by condition and treatment, not just species. Clean dimensional offcuts, engineered panels, painted trim, pressure-treated decking, nail-heavy demolition lumber, and pallets can have different reuse, grinding, fuel, or disposal rules. Length and air space usually control volume; moisture and attached material control weight and acceptance.

Wood requires treatment/coating identification, de-nailing, long-piece geometry, engineered-wood separation, and reuse quality grading.

Dimensional framing

Separate reusable lengths from short cutoffs and damaged demolition stock before mixing them with sheathing or trim.

Engineered panels

Plywood, OSB, MDF, particleboard, LVL, and laminated components contain different resins and do not automatically share a recovery path.

Deck and fence material

Treatment, coatings, rot, soil contact, fasteners, concrete footings, and hardware make exterior wood a mixed assembly.

Pallets and packaging

Reusable standardized pallets, broken pallets, crates, blocking, banding, and cardboard should be counted separately.

Set the processing boundary

Cutting, de-nailing, bundling, and separating attached hardware consume labor and tools; state whether they are included.

Stack to expose quantity

Parallel stacking shows length and count; a tangled pile hides concrete footings, sheet goods, trash, and sharp metal.

Keep reusable stock protected

Ground contact, rain, mixed fasteners, and rough loading can turn potential salvage into waste before a receiver evaluates it.

04 / SEPARATION LOGIC

Protect the useful stream before it becomes mixed debris.

Clean untreated wood

Keep apart from pressure-treated, painted, fire-damaged, chemically exposed, or preservative-coated material.

Engineered wood

Do not promise the same grinding or fuel path as clean solid lumber without receiver confirmation.

Hardware and non-wood attachments

Metal connectors, roofing, drywall, insulation, membranes, concrete, and plastic reduce load purity and can damage processing equipment.

05 / MEASURE IT

Use the assembly’s native unit.

For stacked material, record piece count, common dimensions, bundle size, and longest length. For irregular demolition piles, use outside dimensions and a visible-void description.

Loose cubic-yard factors vary with processing and void space. Chipped wood, stacked studs, broken cabinets, and a tangled deck pile cannot share one volume-to-weight factor.

Best for straight, structurally suitable, protected material with known dimensions and a confirmed receiver.

Wood processing

Clean untreated streams may be ground or otherwise recovered where local processors allow the exact material.

Controlled disposal

Painted, treated, engineered, contaminated, or mixed wood follows facility-specific rules and should remain identified.
