Area-first drywall tool

Convert removed wall area into a visible bare-panel baseline.

The tool uses named USG product weights rather than an invented universal drywall factor. It shows what clean new board alone might represent, then keeps demolition finish, moisture, fasteners, and mixed layers outside the number.

Installed board area

Use total wall or ceiling face area. Add layers explicitly; do not use room floor area.

USG nominal product weight. This is not an actual demolition-load weight: finish, compound, fasteners, texture, moisture, tile, lath, framing, and product variation are excluded.

USE IT WELL

Measure every board face and layer.

A 10-foot wall that is 8 feet high contains 80 square feet on one face. A two-layer rated assembly contains twice the board face area before accounting for the opposite side.

ADD OUTSIDE THE TOOL

  • Joint compound, texture, and paint
  • Wet or water-damaged board
  • Tile, plaster, lath, insulation, and framing
  • Product-specific density and breakage
